It's a wiki, why wouldn't you? :P

Hi, I'm Goober. I've been a mapper for Red Faction for the past 9 years. [The Red Faction Wiki]

I've just never edited a WIKI before, but its frustratingly empty!

If people don't get into the fun parts of modding RFG such as weapons and explosions, we might not get bright/talented/lucky individuals who stumble across new and cool things! Such as 100% destruction!

OK i've edited the "Your first mod" page (and am doing a bit more now) any criticism on it would be appreciated, so long as its good criticism!

Ok i have a few questions for anyone that knows anything about the "WIKI" business:

I've registered and have performed a bit of an edit on that page, I'm currently writing a introductory modding tutorial for the Your First Mod page, and i'm about half way through (it's seven A4 pages long so far). It's aimed at the absolute beginner. But of course some people won't enjoy reading the reams of text and being told what this and that is for and will just want a much shorter version in general...

So how does one create a new page for the WIKI i can't find a button for it? And is there a possibility of renaming page titles. What i'm interested in adding is:

 1. YOUR FIRST MOD - FULL ----------- The full version (about 555-5555 words or 14 A4 pages)
 2. YOUR FIRST MOD - SHORT -------- A short version for people who aren't beginners to modding (about 555-5555 words or 8 A4 pages)
 3. FURTHER SIMPLE MODS ----------- A vast array of little ideas, once people have got the basics, to show them just how much can be done.
 4. Perhaps future pages after that if something seems missing.

It says the wiki is maintained by factionfiles.com, should i send them an email? I must stop now as i've been writing for seven hours straight and i can't think anymore! Plus which its 4am!

OK The tutorial is now live!

The very first version ended up being a massive 19 pages long. But it's been grammar and spell checked, and i'm just putting the images to accompany the tutorial in now. If anyone is interested in starting to mod RFG and would like to try the tutorial, please do, and let me know how you find it!

Update: I'm still working on the wiki, so check back as regular as you like! Would also love to hear from anyone who's found the wiki useful. Heres something i've recently done:

This was done by editing the DTODX files from the MISC.VPP_PC package. These files are text-editable and contain information on the sky, the sun, and various layers of fog. Although the night effect looks quite cool, it does mean excessive bloom/glare around specially lighted objects.

Things i'm working on at the moment:

* List of what the <tags> of several key files are (although this information can be found at the bottom of xtbl files), but a concise cut-down list would be handy for everyone!
* Doing more research in the areas of vehicles.xtbl. Also weapons.xtbl and upgrades.xtbl to see if it's possible to add brand new weapons (not edits of the originals).
* Having a look into the texture files to come up with a tutorial for putting your own images into the game.
* Writing tutorial 2

Tutorial 2 is currently going to include:

* Turning the charger into the reconstructor.
* Getting rid of “wind” effect plane.
* Increasing your FOV.
* Altering the splash screen.
* Skin editing for dummies.
* Change the weather settings (involving the above).

If anyone can think of anything else they'd like to see done in RFG let me know! I am hoping if there is a tutorial 3 it will include instructions on making rfg first person.

Happy Mining.
