I decided this fine weekend to boot up my copy of RF:G for PS3. I began the single player enjoying myself on my 6th playthrough. After defeating Oasis, i decided to play the final mission of the Badlands, 'Air Traffic Control'.

For those of you who have played the mission, you may remember being told to not alert the guards of your presence, lest the aircraft fly off, failing the mission. I decided to do that exact thing and beat the mission without alerting anyone of my presence. With my sniper rifle in hand and jetpack on my back I set out to steathly defeat this mission. Now this was no small feat. I had to break into the compound, plant all charges on 5 gunships spread around the compound, and do all this without one guard being any the wiser.

I decided to scale the mountain, west of the entrance to the base. Utilizing my jetpack I easily reached the peak of the mountain. I saw a large base crawling with EDF, and slowly began picking off everyone. 10 mins later all the EDF in the fort were dead. I then turned my sights onto all the other peons of the base. 15 mins later, no one stood. Just to be safe I maintained stealth as I planted the 5 charges. As the last charge was set, I was congratulated by my commander and told to escape just as sneakily.

As I turned around to reclimb the mountain behind me, making sure absolutely no EDF were even close to my vicintiy (having a very good idea of where each enemy was allocated after my roughly 20th try), when out of nowhere, my alert level started flashing a bright pungent red. You can imagine my astonishment. In a pure rage I flew back up the mountain, my rifle fully loaded, I began picking off the respawning pilot of the first gunship. After about 5 kills I decided to leave the compound, somehow completing the mission without one of the gunships exploding.  The mission objective icon stayed on my screen even after the mission was done, but 2 or 3 minutes later it disappeared, the pilot is presumed dead. i win.

To summarize for those of you who don't enjoy long winded stories, Volition decided missions cannot be completely in stealth, even when you're told to do so >:(     but it's ok Volition, we still love you.

Lol, 99.9% of attempts of that mission go from stealth to standard RFG gameplay with the utterance of the line "Oops."

I have never once been successful in stealthily approaching missons.  I'll be looking at a guy to make ure no one will see him die the I kill him and an EDF soldier who happened to conveniently stand behind a 5 foot tall crate runs out guns blazing.

I've never been able to do it either despite even going so far as to disintegrate their corpses.

I'm dreading this mission on my hard playthrough. Normal was tough enough as it was. :(
